The Mapbox movement is a set of life data resulting from 30+ billion daily location updates and taken from the data panel that underlies more than 600 million active Mapbox -powered application users worldwide. This data set captures significant mobile device activity collected into geographical tiles of 100 meters resolution (about one city block) and various mapbox boundaries. Cases of use include retail analysis and location selection, rapid disaster response, tracking of POI rush hour, and transportation planning. Movement data is now available in public beta for all Mapbox developers.
Movement data offers several main advantages: unprecedented global scope and consistency, guarantee of privacy, and a strong QA process that ensures high-quality data for use in your application.
To encourage innovation and allow mapbox customers around the world to unlock the various cases of usage that we offer 8 months (January to August 2020) Movement Data No Cost for Mapbox Users For 3 main geography: United States, Germany and Britain.
“Data provided by Mapbox about the level of activity in certain local areas, in a combination with a series of other data from additional providers, including the level of mobility and displacement and social vulnerability, helping to direct the effect on the consequences, things that are increasing at times required by the combination and increasing things.

A set of movement data for the whole world
With thousands of mapbox -powered cellular applications that cover almost every metro area inhabited in the world, movement data is your source for mobility analysis in all geographical areas. Movement activity index is updated every day for each 100m spatial grid in our global market collection. The relative indicator of this person’s movement is used to compare the level of activity in all space and time for any geography. Movement data is available in 8 markets (US, Britain, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, India, Japan) and can be available at additional markets requested with a waiting time of 3 weeks.
First privacy
Choosing a movement data means choosing a free data collection of worries that respect individual privacy and eliminate any rules. Other data sets collect the identification of device level advertisements and mark data on user location data with attributes that can be identified personally-with efforts to “analyze” only post-processing. However, some investigations including the latest work from Nytimes have revealed how this type of data can be easily “identified” which leads to poor results. Mapbox has a rich history to respect our users’ privacy, and the Mapbox movement has been built with the same principles on the front lines. Mobility data collected from SDK Mapbox isonized on the device and collected in the cloud. There is no identification or other information that can be identified personally that has been collected or survived as part of our telemetry, and location events are collected into geospatial tiles with a minimum size with a tight privacy threshold.
Simple but strong data
MAPBOX is responsible for making data, processing, and validation making it possible to make up in all layers of data piles and ensure the reliability, consistency, and quality that is appropriate for use in most applications. Other providers sell data that has been collected from the 3rd resources that cannot be relied upon, combined in an inconsistent way, and are produced without adequate data quality checks. All our movement data is the first party data sourced from the Mapbox -powered application. We have full visibility into our data pipes and we use this context to continue to measure and calibrate changes in the use of mobile devices, which produce superior and reliable mobility data sets.
Movement data is updated every day and monthly, and sent as a flat file set data with a simple scheme – ready to be imported and processed with general geospatial tools including tableau, postgis, or kepler. Along with global traffic data and 4 million boundaries that are cured, Mapbox offers a complete series of data products to analyze mobility patterns anywhere in the world.
