Rumors of the next Xbox console say it won’t have a disc drive, so it’s completely digital gaming
Xbox Disc Drive Console – Sony’s announcement regarding their plans not to produce physical PlayStation games starting in 2028 has shocked many parties. This makes gamers and other parties worried about the future of physical games.
Meanwhile, rumors recently emerged claiming that the next Xbox console will not have a Disc Drive and will be completely a digital game console. Where did this rumor come from?
The Origin of the Rumors of the Next Xbox Console Reportedly Ditching the Disc Drive
Based on information obtained by Windows Central, the next generation Xbox console (Project Helix) will most likely not be equipped with a disc drive at all.
If the rumors are true, it means that PlayStation and Xbox consoles will abandon physical games in the future. Meanwhile, Nintendo is the only console manufacturer that still provides games in physical form. At least for now because we don’t know what Nintendo’s plans are for the future.
This situation is quite ironic, considering that Nintendo has often been considered the most conservative in terms of adopting new technology.
Sony itself has given reasons for this decision, saying that digital media consumption currently far exceeds sales of physical media. Meanwhile, Xbox has not yet officially spoken about whether Project Helix will come with a disc drive or not.
It is predicted that prices will be very expensive
Just like the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, Project Helix will use a special chip made by AMD. The console will also support a variety of the latest visual technologies, such as next generation ray tracing and AMD’s FSR upscaling technology.
Even though it sounds promising, the price is predicted to exceed $1,000 US dollars. One of the main reasons is the spike in prices of components such as RAM and storage, which Sharma said posed a major challenge in the Project Helix development process.
At the time this article was written (3/7), there was no official information on when the latest generation console would be launched, so players still have to be patient and wait for further announcements. So let’s just wait for confirmation whether these rumors are true or not from Microsoft or Xbox itself.
